James Broderick Bio

James Broderick was an American actor who made a name for himself in the entertainment industry during the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Charlestown, New Hampshire, in 1927, Broderick began his acting career on stage before transitioning to television and film. He is perhaps best known for his role as Doug Lawrence in the television series "Family," which aired from 1976 to 1980. Broderick started acting professionally in the early 1950s, working in television programs and small roles in feature films. However, it was his role in "Family" that provided him with his breakthrough performance. For his portrayal of Doug Lawrence, Broderick was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. The show itself was also critically acclaimed, covering topics such as homosexuality, drug addiction, and divorce - themes that were considered groundbreaking for a network television series at the time. Aside from "Family," Broderick also appeared in several other television series and films throughout his career, including "The Defenders," "The Guiding Light," and "Dog Day Afternoon," among others. Despite his success, he remained humble and dedicated to his craft, often choosing to work on smaller independent projects rather than mainstream Hollywood films. Sadly, Broderick died in 1982 at the age of 55 due to cancer. However, his legacy as a talented actor and trailblazer in the world of network television lives on, and he is remembered as a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.
