Joe Seneca was an American actor, singer, and songwriter born on January 14, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio. He belonged to a family of singers and growing up with music in his household fueled his passion for music. In his early years, Joe Seneca sang gospel music and was part of a gospel quartet. He later switched to R&B and contributed to several hit songs. In the 1960s, Joe Seneca transitioned into acting and appeared in various movies, television series, and Broadway productions. He was best known for his performances in movies like "Crossroads," "The Blob," and "Malcolm X." In 1986, Joe Seneca was also nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway production of Robert Johnson: Trick The Devil. Aside from his music and acting career, Joe Seneca was also a songwriter. He co-wrote the song "Break It To Me Gently," which became a hit for Brenda Lee and was also covered by different artists across different genres. He also wrote songs for other musicians such as The Neville Brothers, Ray Charles, and Diana Ross. Joe Seneca's talent as a musician and actor made him a respected figure in the entertainment industry. He died on August 15, 1996, at the age of 77, due to a heart attack. His contribution to music, film, and Broadway remains celebrated till today, and his legacy lives on through his songs and performances.
