Orthodoxos Ioannou, commonly known as Archbishop Chrysostomos II, is a prominent figure in the Greek Orthodox Church and has been serving as the archbishop of Cyprus since 2006. Born on April 10, 1941, in the village of Tala, Paphos, Cyprus, he is highly respected both locally and internationally for his spiritual leadership and contributions to the Cypriot community. Archbishop Chrysostomos II began his journey in the clergy at a young age. After completing his education at the Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia, he attended the Pedagogical Academy in the capital city. In 1974, he was appointed as the personal representative of the Archbishop Makarios III, the head of the Greek Orthodox Church in Cyprus, and actively participated in efforts to defend the rights of the Cypriot people during the Turkish invasion. Archbishop Chrysostomos II was elected as the archbishop of Cyprus on November 24, 2006, succeeding Archbishop Chrysostomos I. Since assuming the position, he has been deeply involved in various aspects of Cypriot society. His efforts have focused on maintaining religious harmony, championing social justice causes, and advocating for the restoration of historic religious sites.
