Why is it so much easier writing this post and casting it out into the void than it ever will be to strike up an interesting DM one-on-one? It is crippling self-doubt? It’s not lack of imagination. Trying to strike up a conversation feels like being alone in a room and an attractive person walks up to you and stands and stares you directly in the eye, awkwardly waiting on you to be the height of intellect and wit. What should i say? I want to reflect things that have meaning to me, but i don’t want to be too personal and intrusive. Small talk is a violation on humanity, at least in the metaverse, where it has no purpose. What is the least amount of words i can use to be funny, curious and intriguing, where my person of interest will be bound to reciprocate that curiosity?

Not a fan of small talk either, and also relatively introverted... I will say that at least this app features a few useful ways for people to easily showcase interests and personality. I like to dive in by asking an icebreaker or two based on mutuality, and I usually do this in a lightly humorous way, as I can be very funny. You gotta start somewhere.

My recommendation if you were to approach me: Talk about what you want, ask every question that comes to mind. I'll admit if I'm not willing to share something just yet, I would respect the same answer to any question someone is uncomfortable with answering. Do consider though: Sharing almost nothing about you can make it difficult for anyone to connect. Meaningful questions to me are a sign of interest. If no interest is shown, I struggle to get invested in the potential connection, and will probaly forget someone wants to connect. Also, probably a good idea to stick with questions you wouldn't mind answering or sharing a story about. Daily living, what I did last week, what I did years ago, and potentially life changing events are all things I would share stories of if asked. But that is the catch: I need to be prompted to share those stories
