In the vast and diverse cast of characters populating the pages of The Bible, Amasa, son of Abigail is somewhat of a lesser-known figure. Yet, his brief appearances in the Old Testament shed some light on his personality, family ties, and involvement in the political and military landscapes of the time. According to 1 Chronicles 2:16, Amasa was a son of Abigail, one of David's many wives. David, who would go on to become one of the most famous kings of Israel, had a complex family life that included multiple wives and concubines, as well as a fair share of drama and conflict. Amasa's mother Abigail was likely one of the less prominent wives, and little else is known about her. Amasa's own life, however, intersects with some key events in Israelite history.
