Ivana Bašić is a Croatian-born artist based in New York City. She is known for her sculptural installations that explore the relationship between the human body, technology, and nature. Bašić’s work often incorporates organic materials such as animal hides, bones, and plant fibers, alongside more industrial materials like silicone, steel, and resin. Through her use of these materials, she creates a sense of tension between the human and non-human, the living and the artificial. Born in 1986 in Croatia, Bašić studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb before completing an MFA at Columbia University in New York. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums around the world, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. In 2017, Bašić was awarded the prestigious Frieze Artist Award, which recognizes emerging artists who are pushing the boundaries of contemporary art. Bašić’s work often takes on a political dimension, addressing issues related to feminism, capitalism, and environmentalism.
