Erich-Alexander Winds is a well-known German musician, composer, and music educator. He was born in 1969 in Frankfurt, Germany, and began his musical journey at a young age. Erich-Alexander Winds is a multi-faceted artist who dabbles in various genres, including classical and contemporary music. He is a celebrated composer who has created works for orchestras, choir, and chamber ensembles. Erich-Alexander Winds studied music composition at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, where he received his Diploma and an Award in Composition. He then went on to do his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Music Composition at Indiana University, Bloomington, and the University of Michigan, respectively. During his time in the United States, Winds studied with some of the most renowned composers, such as Claude Baker, David Lang, and Sydney Hodkinson. Winds has received numerous accolades for his work as a composer, including the prestigious 2012 BMW Composition Award for his piece, "What Shall I Say?" in the category of New Music Theater. In addition, he has also won the 2003 International Composition Competition 'Guido d'Arezzo' in the Sacred Music Category for his composition "Passionsmusik." Winds has also been nominated for the ZEIT Award for his Chamber Music Album, "Songs of Strange Lands and People." Besides composing and teaching, Erich-Alexander Winds is also a renowned flutist and has performed in various orchestras and ensembles worldwide. He has played in notable venues such as the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Seoul Arts Center, to name a few.
