Chioma Onyekwere is a Nigerian track and field athlete who specializes in the discus throw. Born on November 14th, 1992, in Delta State, Nigeria, Chioma discovered her love for athletics at a very young age. She is currently one of Nigeria's best discus throwers and athletes, having competed and won medals in various national and international tournaments. Chioma had an impressive start to her athletics career, setting new records and winning medals at various junior competitions before transitioning to the senior level. In 2011, she represented Nigeria at the African Junior Championships, where she won a Gold medal in the Discus throw. The following year, she competed at the Commonwealth Youth Games, winning Gold in Discus and Silver in Shotput. Chioma’s successes continued to accumulate at the senior level after she moved to the United States of America to further her education. In 2019, she competed at the African Games in Rabat, Morocco, where she won a Bronze medal in the Discus throw. That same year, she set a personal best of 61.36m at the African Championships in Asaba, finishing 5th in the discus throw final. Today, Chioma Onyekwere is among the top discus throwers in the world and looks to showcase her talent in upcoming competitions, including the Tokyo Olympics. She is an inspiration to many young athletes in Nigeria and continues to be a positive force in the track and field community.
