Andrei Slabakov was a Bulgarian actor, comedian, and television presenter. Born on June 8, 1959, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Slabakov showcased a natural aptitude for the performing arts from a young age. He started performing in plays and musicals while in high school, and after graduating, he continued nurturing his passion at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. Slabakov became a household name in Bulgaria in the late 1980s and early 1990s when he began appearing on the popular TV show "Zad Kanala" (Behind the Channel), co-hosting alongside his friend and fellow comedian Vasil Vasiliev - Zueka. The show featured a mix of comedy sketches, interviews with local celebrities, and music performances. It quickly became a hit with audiences all over Bulgaria and propelled Slabakov to national fame. Apart from his work on "Zad Kanala," Slabakov starred in numerous Bulgarian films, TV series, and theater productions over his illustrious career. He was known for his exceptional command of dialogue, quick wit, and charismatic personality. In 2001, Slabakov was awarded the "Golden Feather" prize for his contribution to Bulgarian satire and humor. Sadly, Andrei Slabakov passed away on November 3, 2017, in Sofia, Bulgaria, after a long battle with cancer. He will always be remembered as one of Bulgaria's most beloved entertainers and a pillar of the country's comedy scene.
