I think people have a very warped concept of justice that is more revenge and less justice. Instead of punishing someone but trying to reform them, people would rather completely destroy the person without ever considering reform.

Justice has to have a judge, one that follows an individuals idea of what is just. If you live in a society, it's important to know what that society considers unjust. Same as in a relationship.

Well, justice is not fair, it strives for it, but since it's merely perceptual and relies on how we value things with no intrinsic value you can't ever make it fair. We do need Justice, but it's naive to think we could reach a universal understanding of what is just.

Its questions like these that baffle me. Even more crazy that I havent seen anyone react to how preposterous this question is. The sad thing is, I should be use to this by now since Im seeing this a lot lately... apparently its normal these days to call everything an "Idea"... like is everyone postmodernistic by default? I am not living in the times I am suppose to be living in i guess.. but, honestly I wouldnt care so much if people werent so seemingly literal and or militantly unidefinitive. Literalism and semantic fluidity are NOT supposed to mix. Excuse my seemingly immediate lapse of hipocrasy for a second but I must say that, quite literally, They are contradictions by definition. To the poster, first of all, I am aware that perhaps your intentions were honestly harmless and perhaps the question was in some sense constructed out of a genuinely curious impulse, (which imo should never be a valid reason so I hope you had some other reasons regardless of them being cynical in nature), and please dont take this wrong way, I just tend to come off verbose and strong which only amplifies my highly opinionated personality... but I am not claiming to be "right" per se, I am just hoping to meet somewhere in the middle with you... and so first I must ask you, do you see anything 'careless'(i dont want to use the word, 'wrong' here because thats not anywhere near what I want to entail) about that specific question your asking people? If thats kind of a arespondable question for me to ask you and youd rather indulge me on one other instead then just consider this,"What makes you think that 'justice', the word, can be appropriately refered to as an 'idea', the epiphenomena. What do you think an 'idea', the concept, is? Once you thought about that for a second, do you still think that 'justice', the word can be refered to as an 'idea' the, whatever opinion of idea you just conceived of, and be (excuse the highly uncanny irony here) definitively justified? **also to anyone who reads this and thinks that 'justice', the principle, is absolutley subjective, you are wrong. If you think that 'justice' the principle, or 'justice' the cardinal virtue/and value cannot be objective, well, you can't be more wrong about the word 'justice' as how it pertains to actual life and reality. Perhaps it may just be naivety and therefore because it wasnt ever really thought about till now, it was merely apercetive presupposition that just needed angles, thats just learning and there is nothing wrong with thay, but if you are an adult, and have served jury duty or have commited a crime and therefore have been on the docket and have gone to court, and still claim that 'justice' is subjective and or cannot be objective, thats not naivety, thats just willful ignorance.( editjat )

Justice cant exist without a clear sense of right and wrong. It is a concept of moral rightness based on either ethics, rationality, law, natural law, religion, equity & fairness.

Justice is objective. People twist it around to suite their own needs mostly because people are hypocritical. Starts as a child. Don't drink, smoke, or cuss because it's bad but parents say it while holding a beer. Do as I say not as I do. People look onto others and pass judgement based on the actions of the criminal but would ask for mercy for themselves if it were relative to them.

I think justice is our best effort to curb our inherently violent nature born from a time when we were attacking each other in tribes with bows and arrows. It is something that we must strive to achieve, even if in our current society it is skewed in one groups favor (looking at the rich and powerful) we will never gain a better future if we don't do our best to right the wrongs of our neighbours and of ourselves.

Justice, like written history, is in the hands of those with power. It is what they want it to be. For some it's beheading for not believing, others it's imprisoning one race whole letting another of for the same crime. For many it's revenge or payback. Truth, equity and transparency seem to be missing in most places today
