WHY did Henry Ford send his managers to the Caribbean?
One day Henry Ford gathered all the managers of his company and, disregarding their excuses and complaints, sent them on a two-week cruise to the Caribbean Sea. When they returned, some had been promoted and others had been fired. What was Ford relying on? On the performance of the departments that were temporarily without a boss. If the work was going well and smoothly, Ford reasoned, it meant that the manager had succeeded in organizing everything properly. However, if things fell through the cracks, it meant that they were useless without their manager, and the fault, of course, lay solely with the manager.
