My mother tongue is considered to be one of the most difficult to learn (green area)... especially our grammar, so we have low expectations of foreigners speaking it but would say we are quite impressed when someone learns to speak it fluently... because, well... why? 😆

Learning German after Mandarin is so funny. I can't let go of my hard earned Chinese tones and just pronounced 'daant keL' instead of 'danke' 😭

So I decided to learn some Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, and I might do German as well later on. So far I’m already in 17 days in, I’ve learned some things more of Spanish then I usually have, I’m going to continue in through out the days.

I was just thinking about language barriers and my inability to speak a language but actually to understand it and how funny/strange and even potentially cute it would be to carry on a conversation with a partner speaking another language who understood English when I spoke it. 😅❤️

Genuine communication > Perfect communication

What matters is the effort and intent, not how perfectly articulated it was

I'm feeling pretty proud of myself. Today is the second time I described my day to my language partner without any script or translator. 

My vocabulary is limited, but I know enough to have a very simplistic conversation. Now it's just a matter of getting those words to come out. 

The screenshot is what my friend typed as I was talking. She did correct a bit of my grammar, added some transition words I didn't know yet, and she translated a couple of phrases, Like online meeting and coworker since those are beyond HSK1 👀😅

I wonder about the end goal. 
Part of it is the journey though, right?

I wonder if this is all just a break from reality.
That, I’ve sent myself away to draw fun doodles for a grade.
Maybe, it’s an escape. 

I don’t know what awaits at the end of this chapter, but nevertheless, I think I’d like to see it.

I had a 1000 day streak on Duolingo and still can't speak Japanese that well 💀

Today was the 3rd time I tried speaking in Chinese to my language exchange partner. She types what I say to see if I'm understood, and also to give notes afterwards. Slowly I'm getting better. I still pause and have to think a lot about what I'm saying before the words come out. It's physically painful at this stage 🥲

My listening skills are still pretty poor, despite all the Cdramas I watch 😂. Hopefully with more practice though that will finally start to get easier.
