About video games anymore. I understand that they served me at many points in my life but I've been doing art all day and realized that it's scratching that itch that I was getting by being in a colorful fantasy world through video games. My computer is on its way out anyway, it's coming apart at the seams and I just...don't care like I did. With my cptsd affecting my dopamine levels, too much digital entertainment is bad for my brain anyway and I was using to escape. I wasn't even really feeling better. I was feeling more agitated after playing. I'm uninstalling them all right now. I'm happy for anyone who does truly benefit from video games. But I quit TV and movies a few years back for this same reason and I feel in love with reading again and ending up publishing actual books I'd always meant to write. I'm replacing video games with creating art. I'm throwing myself into that instead. It's actually bringing down my stress levels, incredibly.

What is the best thing about learning something new?

I was driving my family today when we came to a roadblock. An officer stopped me and asked for my ID and driver's license. He then pointed out that I wasn't wearing my seatbelt properly

His tone was strict.. so I naturally responded in the same tone. In the end, he didn't give me a fine. He just reminded me to wear my seatbelt properly next time and let me go

After we left, I noticed my family was quiet.. so I asked for their honest opinion. They told me my tone sounded like I was challenging the officer. That wasn't my intention at all. To me, it felt normal

That gave me something to think about. Sometimes we don't notice our own behavior until someone we trust points it out

Looking back, I should have simply apologized and said I'd make sure to wear my seatbelt properly next time

I'm grateful my family was honest with me. Honest feedback isn't always comfortable.. but it's one of the best ways to keep improving
