Hi so this is a long shot but I have a student (5 years old nonverbal with autism) who I really want to communicate more with. Her family speaks Swahili at home. She scripts things in Swahili (things from a YouTube channel she watches) and she’ll repeat things back to me sometimes. I’ve typed things into Google Translate and she has responded with doing what I’ve said so I know she has the ability to understand. But I know Google Translate isn’t always the most accurate. So my question is, does anyone speak Swahili and if so, would you be willing to teach me a few words and phrases? I love this girl so much and honestly speaking her language is the least I can do. Her home life isn’t the best and I know she doesn’t get attention much from her parents. I want to be a positive adult for her. I can already feel she likes me more after I’ve started trying to speak to her in her language. Help is much appreciated!
