Conklin was primarily known for his career as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) during the early 1990s. He was born in Yakima, Washington, and grew up playing football in his hometown. Conklin went on to have a successful college career, earning a scholarship to play for the University of Washington Huskies. Conklin's professional career began in 1990 when he was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Redskins, primarily serving as a backup quarterback. One of Conklin’s most memorable moments with Washington was in 1992 when he led a comeback victory against the New Orleans Saints, throwing a winning touchdown pass with just seconds left on the clock. In 1994, Conklin joined the San Francisco 49ers and spent two seasons with the team. During his time in San Francisco, he served as a backup to legendary quarterback Steve Young. Although his playing time was limited, Conklin gained valuable experience and knowledge from working closely with Young, one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. After stints with the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Conklin retired from professional football in 1997. Since retiring from the NFL, he has remained involved in the sport, transitioning into coaching. Conklin has notably worked as a quarterbacks coach for various college teams, including his alma mater, the University of Washington. His experience as a player and coach has earned him respect within the football community, and he continues to contribute to the development of young quarterbacks.
