Balayan began his career in the film industry in the late 1940s, working as an actor in various Armenian film productions. His talent and passion for filmmaking soon led him to venture into writing and directing. In 1956, he directed his first film, "The Last Deed," which explored the themes of love, honor, and betrayal set during the 1918 Armenian Genocide. This film marked the beginning of a successful and prolific career that would span over five decades. Throughout his career, Roman Balayan directed and wrote numerous critically acclaimed films that showcased his unique storytelling style and artistic vision. His films often tackled important historical and social issues, shedding light on the Armenian culture and identity. Some of his notable works include "The Tango of Our Childhood" (1965), "Sojourn at Ararat" (1973), and "Dream of Akira Kurosawa" (2000). These films received international acclaim and earned Balayan various awards and recognition at prestigious film festivals. Roman Balayan's contribution to the Armenian film industry extended beyond his work as a filmmaker.
