Frank Dane

Frank Dane Bio

Frank Dane (born 1874) was an English comedian, actor and radio personality. He started his career on the stage, performing in various burlesque and music hall shows in the late 19th and early 20th century. With his unique style of humour and impeccable timing, he quickly made a name for himself as one of the top comedic acts in London. He later transitioned into the burgeoning medium of radio, where he hosted his own show and became one of the most popular voices on the airwaves.

Dane was known for his quick wit and ability to improvise, often incorporating current events and topical humour into his performances. He also had a talent for mimicry and would often impersonate famous figures and celebrities of the day. One of his most famous skits was his impression of King Edward VII, which he would perform to great acclaim.

Dane was also a prolific songwriter and composer, penning over 200 music hall and comedic songs over the course of his career. Some of his most popular songs include "Mother, What'll I Do Now?" and "What a Funny World". He remained active in the entertainment industry until his death in 1956.

Despite his immense popularity during his lifetime, Dane's legacy has largely been forgotten in the modern era. However, his influence can still be seen in the work of many modern comedians and radio personalities, who continue to draw inspiration from his unique style and humour.
