Tura Satana

Tura Satana Bio

Tura Satana was a prominent actress and cult film icon of Japanese-American descent. Born on July 10th, 1938 in Hokkaido, Japan to a Japanese father and Filipino mother, she immigrated to the United States when she was seven years old. Satana grew up in poverty and faced racial prejudices, which motivated her to become a strong and independent individual. She attended school in Chicago and then moved to Los Angeles where she started her career in entertainment. Satana began her career as a showgirl in the late 1950s and early 1960s in clubs such as the prestigious Mocambo in Hollywood. She was discovered by filmmaker Jack Hill while performing at the dance club. Satana's first major break came in 1965, when she starred in the film "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" directed by Jack Hill. The film quickly became a cult classic and established Satana as an influential figure in the exploitation film genre. In the film, Satana played the character of Varla, a violent and ruthless racecar driver, whose performance received critical acclaim. After her success in "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!", Satana appeared in several other exploitation films and television shows throughout the 1960s and 1970s. She continued to be a strong advocate for women's empowerment, which was reflected in her on-screen persona as well. Satana was also renowned for performing her own stunts in films, which earned her respect in both the entertainment and martial arts communities. Satana passed away on February 4th, 2011 at the age of 72. Despite her relatively short career in the entertainment industry, she left a lasting impact on popular culture and is considered a pioneer for women's empowerment and diversity in film. To this day, her performance in "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" continues to be celebrated as a cult classic and an important contribution to the exploitation film genre.
