"I don't care if I'm a sexual object or not. Of course, attractiveness and beauty are valued, but in the end, talent is what survives."
Edith Clever
Edith Clever Bio
Edith Clever was a well-known German actress who rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s. She was born on December 13, 1940, in Wuppertal, Germany, and grew up with a passion for acting. After completing her education, Clever joined the German theatre scene in the 1960s and eventually branched out into films and television.
Clever first gained critical acclaim for her stage performances, which earned her a reputation as one of the most talented actresses of her generation. Her breakthrough film role came in 1972 when she was cast in the movie "The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant," directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. She went on to appear in several of Fassbinder's films, including "Effi Briest" (1974) and "The Marriage of Maria Braun" (1979), which became one of her most famous works.
In addition to her acting work, Clever was also known for her political activism. She was a vocal supporter of leftist and feminist causes and was involved in protests against nuclear weapons in the 1980s. She also worked as a lecturer and teacher, passing on her knowledge and experience to future generations of actors and actresses.
Throughout her career, Clever received numerous accolades for her work, including the prestigious German Film Award and the Berlin Film Festival's Silver Bear. She continued to act well into the 2000s, appearing in both German and international films. Tragically, she passed away on May 10, 2019, at the age of 78, leaving behind a legacy as a trailblazing actress and activist who inspired many with her talent and passion.
