Ekaterina Savinova is a retired Russian middle-distance runner who made a name for herself on the international athletics stage. Born on August 12, 1985, in the Russian city of Barsa, Ekaterina was first recognised at a young age for her incredible athletic ability. She began her training as a long-distance runner but found her true calling when she started to train in middle-distance events.
After several years of hard work and dedication, Ekaterina went on to win some of the most coveted titles in athletics. She first came to prominence in 2010 when she won gold in the 800 metres at the European Championships held in Barcelona. Her success continued in 2011 when she competed at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, Korea. She won gold in the 800 metres and set a personal best time of 1:55.87 seconds. Ekaterina was also part of the team that won silver in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the same championships.
In 2012, Ekaterina reached the pinnacle of her career when she won the gold medal in the 800 metres at the London Olympics. She achieved this feat with a stunning finish in the last 50 metres of the race, pulling ahead of her competitors to clinch the title. However, her career was soon to be overshadowed by allegations of doping, and Ekaterina was stripped of her gold medal in 2017. Despite this, she remains an accomplished athlete and a source of inspiration to many young runners.
