Geeta Bali was an Indian film actress and dancer, who gained prominence in the Hindi film industry in the 1950s. Born on January 20, 1930, in Sargodha, British India (now in Pakistan), Geeta Bali's real name was Harikishan Kaur and she was also known as Geetanjali Bali. Her father, Kishan Singh, was a Sikh and her mother, Indira Bali, was a Bengali Brahmin.
Geeta Bali began her career as a child artist, performing in a number of films at a young age. She made her debut as a lead actress in the film "Baazi" in 1951, opposite Dev Anand. The film was a success and marked the beginning of her stardom. Geeta Bali was known for her vivacious and lively screen presence, often portraying the girl-next-door characters with a touch of mischief.
Throughout her career, Geeta Bali worked with many renowned actors and directors of her time, such as Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor, and Shakti Samanta. Some of her notable films include "Jaal" (1952), "Balam" (1949), "Seema" (1955), and "Dekh Kabira Roya" (1957). She was also known for her dances, which were regarded as of high quality and added an element of liveliness to her films.
Tragically, Geeta Bali's career was cut short at the age of 34, as she passed away on January 21, 1965, due to smallpox. Her untimely death was a shock to the industry and left a void that was difficult to fill. Geeta Bali's contribution to Indian cinema remains memorable, and she continues to be remembered as a talented and charismatic actress who left a lasting impact on the Hindi film industry.
