Campbell learned to play the guitar at an early age and began performing in local bands in his late teenage years. In 1958, he moved to Los Angeles and worked as a session musician with Phil Spector's famous "Wall of Sound" production team. Campbell's breakthrough came in 1967 with hits such as "Gentle on My Mind," "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," and "Wichita Lineman." He became known for his smooth voice and guitar-playing skills, which earned him the title of "Rhinestone Cowboy." He also hosted his own television show, "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour," from 1969 to 1972, which featured musical guests and comedy sketches. Despite his success, Campbell struggled with addiction throughout his career. He was open about his struggles with alcoholism and drug abuse and checked into rehab in the early 1980s. He also faced a personal battle with Alzheimer's disease in his later years, which forced him to retire from performing in 2012. Campbell passed away on August 8, 2017, at the age of 81.
