Dansereau began his artistic journey as a playwright and worked with various theater companies, including La Roulotte and Théâtre du Jour, before venturing into filmmaking. In the late 1950s, he joined the NFB, where he directed both fiction and documentary films that reflected the distinct cultural identity of Quebec. His films often wrestled with themes of social injustice and explored the complexities of the human condition. One of Dansereau's most acclaimed works is his 1964 film "Le Temps perdu," which won the Prix de Londres and the Prix Avan-Cannes at the 17th Cannes Film Festival.
