Staley's journey to stardom began in Columbia, South Carolina, where he played high school football at Airport High School. His outstanding performances in high school earned him a scholarship to the University of South Carolina, where he became a pivotal player for the Gamecocks.

During his college career, Duce Staley displayed his talents as a running back, setting numerous records and leaving an indelible mark on the South Carolina football program. He rushed for a total of 1,582 yards in his sophomore year, becoming the university's first-ever 1,000-yard rusher. Staley's impact on the team was undeniable, and he was recognized with multiple accolades, including being named to the All-SEC first team. His exceptional collegiate career propelled him to enter the NFL Draft in 1997.

Following his selection as the 71st overall pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the draft, Duce Staley went on to enjoy a successful career as a running back in the National Football League (NFL).
