Lowe continued his athletic career at Michigan State University, contributing to the Spartans' success in both the 1954 and 1956 Rose Bowl victories. His performance in college led to his selection by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round of the 1956 NFL Draft.

In the NFL, Lowe played for the Washington Redskins and the Detroit Lions. He joined the Lions during the 1957 season and was part of their NFL Championship-winning team that year. Throughout his professional career, Lowe was known for his defensive skills, recording 20 interceptions and 11 fumble recoveries over 97 games.

After retiring from professional football, Lowe worked in the industrial equipment field and was later honored by being inducted into both the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and his hometown Trenton (MI) Sports Hall of Fame. He passed away on October 8, 2017, at the age of 83, leaving behind a legacy as a dedicated athlete and respected member of his community.
