Born on November 12, 1954, in Fremont, Ohio, Lytle grew up with an undeniable passion and talent for the sport. Throughout his career, he played as a running back for both the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Denver Broncos in the National Football League (NFL). Lytle's dedication, speed, and agility made him a formidable force and a valuable asset to any team that had the privilege of having him on their roster.
Lytle began his football journey at the University of Michigan, where he quickly established himself as a star player. From 1973 to 1976, he consistently displayed his exceptional skills and became one of the best running backs in the school's history. In his senior year, he played a pivotal role in helping the Wolverines win the Big Ten Championship and secure a spot in the Rose Bowl. Lytle's college career earned him recognition as an All-American and established the foundation for his future success.
After graduating from college, Lytle was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 1977 NFL Draft. He spent seven seasons with the Broncos, becoming an integral part of their offense. Known for his versatility, Lytle contributed as a runner and receiver, excelling in both areas. He played a crucial role in helping the Broncos reach the Super Bowl in 1978 and 1979, showcasing his exceptional athleticism and determination on football's biggest stage.
Despite facing multiple injuries throughout his career, Lytle's perseverance and determination never wavered. He retired from the NFL in 1983 after playing a total of 86 games and rushing for over 2,000 yards. Following his retirement, Lytle remained an influential figure in the football world, mentoring younger players and contributing to the sport's growth. Sadly, his life was tragically cut short when he passed away on November 20, 2010, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and inspiring countless football enthusiasts.
