Hal Baylor

Hal Baylor Bio

Hal Baylor is a lesser-known actor who graced our screens in the Golden Age of Hollywood. Born in 1918 in the small town of El Paso, Texas, Baylor was a man with a promising future. However, his life took a turn when he was drafted into the US Army during the Second World War. Baylor fought with the 45th Infantry Division in Italy until the end of the war. After his military service ended, Baylor returned to the US with a newfound passion for acting. Baylor's Hollywood career began in the late 1940s when he landed his first significant role in the 1949 film "White Heat," starring James Cagney. The film's success earned Baylor more roles, and he went on to star in over 50 films, including "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951) and "The Wild One" (1953) with Marlon Brando. Despite his many roles, Baylor was often cast in supporting roles and never quite achieved leading man status. In addition to his film work, Baylor also appeared on television. He guest-starred in several iconic TV shows, including "Bonanza" and "Gunsmoke." However, Baylor's most memorable TV appearance was as one of the twelve jurors in the "Twelve Angry Men" episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." The episode, which aired in 1958, was based on the famous play of the same name and starred Henry Fonda as the foreman. In his later years, Baylor retired from acting and returned to his home state of Texas. He passed away in 1998 at the age of 80. Though he may not have achieved the same level of fame as some of his Hollywood peers, Hal Baylor left a lasting impression on the film world and will always be remembered for his contributions to the Golden Age of Hollywood.
