After his injury, Madden began his coaching career as a linebackers coach at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California. He later became an assistant coach for the San Diego State Aztecs and then the Oakland Raiders. In 1969, Madden was named the head coach of the Raiders, where he stayed for 10 seasons. During his time as head coach, the Raiders won Super Bowl XI and Madden became famous for his aggressive and innovative coaching style. After retiring from coaching in 1979 at the age of 42, Madden transitioned into television broadcasting. He became a color commentator for NFL games on CBS, where he worked for 15 years before moving to Fox in 1994. Madden was known for his unique style of commentary, including his trademark "BOOM!" sound effect when a big play occurred. He also lent his name to the popular Madden NFL video game franchise, which has sold millions of copies worldwide. Throughout his career, Madden has been recognized for his contributions to football.
