Books in academia

Question

What's your opinion on books in use in academia?
Generally speaking, would you be willing to go into universities library just for leasure time; with a determined search and stumbling over something funny? (Like physics evaluations of hamster ear hair)

Wouldn't it be just nice, to have no mayor's at all and just be presented a library of 287000 books and working yourself through it, based on interest? Maybe furniture is already too much. But maybe different colour schemes and you learn from the area you like the colour of the most? No limitations. Just going there , read read read till you're tired and repeat for a life time. Would that work out? Isolation may be bad though and you gotta talk with people here and there without flooding them with knowledge

I used to hang out often in the school's library as a kid and still have the habit of sometimes going through the shelves in my university without a concrete aim, happy to stumble on interesting books.

But unfortunately, adult live is to hectic and institutionalized to have enough time for these serene moments. I wish, academia would allow a more intrinsic and emancipatory relationship towards reading (and studying in general) - but the capitalist Bologna-reforms destroyed a lot of that potential.
