A shooting star

A boy found an ordinary stone. Curious, he picked it up And brought it home. Proud, he showed it to his mother. A rock? Why can't you Be like the others. Sad, he showed it to his mirror. It was tarnished and black, With the faintest glimmer. The stone did not ask to be cleaned, But he polished and adored More than he dreamed. Until one day it shined in others' eyes. The gem they wanted and loved, To the boy's surprise. Troubled, the boy asked what it desired. To stay locked in his pocket, Or to those that admired. I am but a direction-less star, How I wandered, Straying so far. Attracted to random by forces unknown, Fizzled and damaged Into this stone. The boy knew what was to be done. He cried and threw the gem Into the sun. Emboldened, the gem soared into the light. Never looking back, Tail so bright. In awe, the boy went home. Never the same again, After the dream he was shown. -dedicated to my Twin
