Girts Kesteris is a Latvian politician, diplomat, and military officer. He was born on October 11, 1967, in the city of Riga. Kesteris began his career in the Latvian army and worked his way up to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his time in the US, he worked to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries and supported Latvia's integration into NATO. In addition to his diplomatic work, Kesteris has also been actively involved in the Latvian business community. He has served as the Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and has worked to promote foreign investment in the country. He is also a member of several international organizations, including the Atlantic Council and the World Affairs Councils of America. Kesteris has been recognized for his contributions to Latvian society and international relations. In 2014, he was awarded the Legion of Merit by the US government for his work as Ambassador. He was also awarded the Order of the Three Stars, one of Latvia's highest honors, for his achievements as State Secretary of Defense. With his extensive military, diplomatic, and business experience, Kesteris continues to be an influential figure in Latvian politics and society.
