It is a film by P.Sorrentino shot in 2004. It is based on the solitary and estranged life of a former accountant from Salerno, Titta Di Girolamo, who has lived for 8 years in a town in Italian Switzerland, forced by the Sicilian mafia to be the final accountant of the black money that is regularly delivered to him in briefcases of cash . To endure this life he regularly takes drugs and socializes with an elderly married couple with whom he plays cards, despite knowing that one of them is cheating. Into his gray existence made up of habits and precise schedules, a young and beautiful barmaid bursts in with whom Titta falls in love in return. To repay young Titta's unexpected love, she gives her a beautiful coupé car. But the money Titta has comes from a shortfall that he stages by appropriating a substantial part of the money to be paid into the bank. Naturally, the heads of the Sicilian family immediately notice the theft and send two killers to kill Titta. But the murder fails and the accountant skillfully kills the killers and decides to accept a trip to Sicily summoned by the mafia boss. In Sicily Titta is first conditioned to return the missing money and then, under the incredulous eyes of a surprised soldier, he refuses to collaborate, openly challenging the mafiosi. As a last attempt at conviction, Titta is placed in a tub and slowly submerged in cement mortar but, to the extreme disbelief of his killers, he reveals nothing and allows himself to suffocate to death. Then we see that the barmaid destroys the car in a simple accident and the elderly couple who know each other find, to their great surprise, a bag full of cash that will help them get out of their financial troubles. The film ends like this. This work by P.Sorrentino is one of his best ever, balanced and dynamic in the development of situations, the interpretation of T.Servillo (Titta) is perfect and truly of a high level, the Neapolitan actor is above all an excellent actor and theatrical creator who lends himself to cinema, also worth mentioning is the cameo of R.Pisu (the elderly cheat) who was one of F.Fellini's friends and actors in the first period. The soundtrack of this raw and unsettling film is very convincing and appropriate.
