Rate the Film: 1998’s The Horse Whisperer

Where would you rate The Horse Whisperer? Feel free to express your thoughts and opinions. For me:⭐️⭐️1/2. I saw this in Christmas of 2022. Something I got for my mother because she loves horses and loves Robert Redford who not only stars but directed this film based on the book of the same. Suffice to say this was a tough sit through since I’m not really into horses and this one felt like those straight to TV/DVD/Streaming girl horse films are not usually good but does have its audiences of those who really like horses. Still I give this credit for having one of most disturbing accidents happen to both a girl and her horse, a bigger budget, some good cinematography of the landscape, and performances from Redford (Tom the Horse Whisperer) and Scarlett Johansson(the daughter Grace). So it’s not quite at the level as bad as some of standard horse films I’ve seen before. However, despite me trying to give it another watch to see if it changed my mind, I just couldn’t because the film is nearly 3 hours long that could’ve easily be trimmed to 2 hr. Also I really hate the Graces mother Annie (Kristen Scott Thomas) in this film who seems to make things worse with her daughter and then gets shoehorned into this romance with Redford despite already being married to her husband Robert (Same Neil) who is actually a nice guy and cares about his daughter than Annie does yet there’s not much screen time devoted to him. Like I said if you love horse and you love the book and film fine good on you, but this was a one and done film for me. (redigerad)
