Uraz earned his degrees from Istanbul University and went on to become a well-known author, translator, and human rights activist. Uraz's career in literature started in the 1940s when he joined the "New Literature Group," a group that aimed to modernize Turkish literature. He wrote numerous novels and short stories throughout his life, which were known for their simplicity and social message. Uraz's literary work revolved around the Turkish way of life, and he often criticized the government's suppression of free speech and human rights. His most famous work includes "The Last Station," "The Stolen Father," "Lies Everywhere," and "The Policeman's Son." In addition to being an author, Uraz was a passionate human rights activist. He became a member of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly in 1994 and was an active member until his death. Uraz was a vocal opponent of the Turkish government's policies that violated human rights, and he often criticized the government for suppressing free speech and limiting the freedom of the press. He also championed women's rights and was one of the founding members of the Istanbul Feminist Collective. Uraz's contributions to Turkish literature and social activism made him a significant figure in Turkey.
