A tiny bit of my mecha collection

I love how when usually guys ask what my favourite anime is I'll list the most girlypop ones from the 2000s I love to death (yu yu hakusho is my offbeat fave 90s and few shounen i really like) and they give me the 1000 yard, frog blink stare and have the audacity to say:

"Uhhh they can't be that good, I never heard of em"

And proceed to gatekeep me, a 90s and 2000s shoujo veteran as they list a bunch of the most current stuff that I've already watched and proceed to explain the plot to a show I've already seen. 

Don't get me wrong enjoy what you enjoy but putting people down in a genre that used to be so SHAMEFUL to admit enjoying that I was a major closet weeb growing up? Like there was such an excitement meeting someone who watched anime no matter their genre because the medium was already labelled so cringe that it was social suicide to admit enjoying it back then. 

I miss that side of the community where it was just enough to watch it to feel connected and and in a welcoming space. Now there's fcking elitism and gatekeepers and hierarchy among new gen weebs 💀💀💀
