On This Day in History - March 21, 1927
March 21, 1927 #OTD Northern Expedition: As the Nationalist Chinese troops of Chiang Kai-shek approached Shanghai, Chinese Communist Party leader Zhou Enlai led the Shanghai Uprising to aid Generalissimo Chiang. A strike was called and 600,000 workers left their jobs. Rebels then seized police stations and armories, cut power and telephone lines, and obeyed Zhou's orders to not harm foreigners in the city.
