FL Studio vs other daws

Is FL Studio actually bad or is it just memes? Its the only daw I've worked with but just curious if I should try different daws

Currently obsessed with making music with no destination in mind .

As a former pen obsessed lyricist ,and a 6 year hiatus from creating - I am now 18 months into a process of creation where I just hit record and build as I go . No inspiration,no ideas just record . Where it has brought me is by far my favorite place . To create as fast as possible ,has been the mission . Anyone else enjoy playing this way ?

Improvement, But Still Salty

This is one of my most well made projects, BUT I can only ever achieve satisfactory results in genres I don't particularly care about like this 😭 None the less, it's still my music baby so I'm still proud of it, and besides, it's still good to see some more progress. I will admit, this mix (the current mix) is the most structured phase of this project regarding the arrangement, but it's not as well mixed as some of the less expanded earlier mixes. I was going through some ear fatigue so my mixing decisions for this mix were a little, well. . . Bad 😅 The weird plucky synth heard halfway through the video that sounds like it doesn't belong in the song, and overpowers everything else, actually doesn't belong. It's only a placeholder for the lyrics I have so far. Thing is. . . I can't sing, so my vocal placeholder synths tend to just stay on my songs forever 😂

Attempt At Gothic Analog music

Kind of my first go at something like this, what d'ya think? 😌 This started with the drone notes, inspired by the intro to the song Rain by Project Pitchfork, that I created in a virtual analog synthesizer. I then threw on some drums that sound slightly electronic and slightly acoustic. Then the pluck, which was created by simply resampling the drone synth in Serum. Then, to fill out the track a little better, I threw in the arpeggio octave bass. Being that it's supposed to sound like 70's-80's gothic analog — 3 themes that are notorious for reverb — I think it could still use a bit more reverb, especially in the drums 🤔 Anyway, now to abandon this project as I can never manage to actually finish a song 🥲

Revisiting An Old Project (Just A Snippet)

Actually, the old version is from 2020, not 2018! I've always loved when artists show a before and after of their old artwork and their remake of it in their new/improved style, so I wanted to try it with one of my favorite music projects. Also, with one of my favorite artists, #Centhron, releasing a full album of old song remakes, I felt even more inspired! I've tried to remake old songs of mine before, but they always came out TERRIBLE because in the old songs, my mixing and sound design were terrible (yet it somehow worked... kind of). When remaking them with my current ability, they always come out worse, because my sound design has improved from what it was 5 years ago while my mixing is just as bad as it was 5 years ago, and that's a terrible combination 😅 Anyway, this remake is pretty big for me because it showed me just how much better my stuff can get with just a few compressors, limiters and equalisers 😂 I even got a little crazy in the remake and used a bass guitar instead of a bass synth... woah 😮😅

Found out a cool (but obscure) little Kick trick

First off, sorry for the poorly done animation, I don't have a video of this project, so I just downloaded a picture of FL Studio's logo and added my video editor's "beat" effect that doesn't actually have an audio sync feature. . . I did this on my phone, give me a break 😭😅 Also, I know that the music production tag/community might be very dead here, but I figured that if there's even one total beginner here, this might help out :D But also, please let me know if you're more experienced and have a much less obscure way of doing this 😅 Anyway, I had this constant issue where I'd find a kick sample that sounds really punchy isolated, but sounds incredibly muddy and/or weak when put in my track. Here's my obscure way of dealing with that: 1. I routed the kick to 2 different mixer tracks, EQed out all the high end of the first track and EQed out all the low end of the second track. Alternatively, you could create 2 instances of the kick sample and load them to their respective busses to adjust the ADSR of the samples individually. 2. I then loaded a limiter into a bus containing all the instruments I wanted ducked behind the kick. I used sidechain compression to compress the instrument bus's signal **according to the bus containing the kick's high end**. This way, the rest of the track gets compressed according to the kick's high end (the punchy bit) so it's heard more, while the low end (the boomy bit) has absolutely no effect on the rest of the track and you can turn it up or down as much as you want to adjust the punchy/boomy ratio :)
