I think it's important to show that I'm not ashamed to be trans (particularly so my students don't see it as something to be hidden).

When I reveal that I'm trans in my dating profile, I always get a ton of invasive questions or have to deal with chasers who want to fetishize me. 

If I don't immediately reveal it, then I risk having meaningful connections suddenly shutting down when the topic comes up. Or worse, I risk getting physically assaulted.

I get all these compliments on my looks and profile from guys who are suddenly offended by the fact that, once upon a time, my body didn't have the right gentilia for me.  

Where do I find the balance of disclosure in a way that both protects me, and also allows me to connect with nerdy guys for fun and dating?

Dating as a trans woman is so hard.

In life at the moment I find myself having to fight within my gender. In an ongoing effort to make sense of who I am, and how I carried shame and self-hate over who I hid from myself. 

Wait… ‘hid’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. In moments of reflection, I look back on so many memories, and recognise that there were signs, all along.

I just didn’t have the awareness, I didn’t have the education, I didn’t have the recognition. I lived in a world where the ideas didn’t exist. Had there been more clarity about Trans lives I would have latched onto the terminology, the premise of exploring my identity and the pursuit of understanding myself.

I see a lot of push back, about queer representation in media, and the ‘trans ideology’ being taught to kids. But people think that educational content is what makes people trans… I think it’s the precise opposite.

I think the lack of such representation, forces trans kids, to live in an ignorance that causes devastating heart ache and self loathing. I should know - thats what it did for me.

So… I am not proud of my nature, I was denied the chance to grow up with that pride. To know my nature, and accept it. I grew up to be a (mostly) decent, supportive and well meaning guy. And the large majority of those traits were things I can be proud of still.
I’m still mostly who I was before. Before I started to recognise myself. Before I started to see the damages, done by  shame and self hate. I’m still who I became, I’m just pushing forward into who I was meant to be.
