Are long-distance romantic connections real, or is this just a bad joke from the universe?

Long distance can work, it did for a friend of mine who was dating a guy in the usa, shes in the uk. He moved over and now they are engaged and expecting their first child. At the end of things someone needs to say ok I'm coming to you. Kids would accidentally make ldr an issue however

I had a 10 year marriage with someone who I met on the IMDb message boards. He was in Australia and I'm in the US. Our son is 22 now. 
I currently have 3 amazing LDR friendships and one that is... warmer. 
You have to be very good at communication, and willing to be very open. Masks and concealment do not function in an LDR. You also have to talk early on about who might move where, if it starts getting romantic, or there is zero point in going further.

Is so hard, I tried for almost three years but the person who I met in texts, calls, video calls, emails, and occasionally meetups, wasn't the same person I met when in real day to day situations. I can't trust in words and I can't see the actions because of distance, so I'm still healing, and still feel I was taken away what I thought could've been. So I guess bottom line, if both are honest and honoring words, then both could make the efforts required to make it work. In my opinion.

In a world where everyone is different, why not? For me a ldr can be only the beginning, but will be a time when me and my partner will live together, in some way. Without this objective it's like a long distance friendship. Being realistic, everything can happen. If at least one of the couple feel the necessity to live with someone, sooner or later might meet someone where he/she lives and abandon the long-distance relationship. But who can tell? With the right person it might work 🤷‍♂️

The connection is probably real but too many variables and outside pressures affect it. You would have to be Romeo and Juliet to make that work and look how that ended😉

No they are real. I met my best friend that way, and we definitely had a connection.But if I could go back I wouldn't let it become what it did, because the distance will be painful to the point of not letting it work.
