As a child, she trained in classical and modern dance, and after completing her education, she moved to Paris to study under renowned choreographers. Werner's career took off in the 1960s when she began performing in musicals and operettas in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

She appeared in numerous films and TV shows throughout the 1970s and 80s, including "Derrick," "Tatort," and "The Old Fox." Her most famous role, however, was as the Countess in the award-winning German musical "Elisabeth," a role she played for over 15 years.

Aside from her acting career, Werner had a successful music career. She released several albums and performed in concerts throughout Europe. Her most popular song was "So Ein Mann" ("Such a Man"), which became a hit in Germany and Austria in the 1970s.
