José de Villa is a renowned Filipino film director and scriptwriter. He has directed and written screenplays for some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful Filipino films. Born on September 5, 1920, in Batangas City, Philippines, De Villa started his career in the entertainment industry in the 1950s as a playwright before transitioning to screenwriting and directing. De Villa graduated with a degree in Journalism from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila before joining LVN Pictures, one of the biggest film production companies in the Philippines during the Golden Age of Filipino cinema.
