Following his stint at Indiana, Crews took on head coaching positions at both the University of Evansville and Army, further solidifying his reputation as a skilled and effective leader. At Evansville, he guided the team to unprecedented success, leading the Purple Aces to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and earning the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year award in 1999. Crews then transitioned to Army in 2002, where he instilled discipline and a winning mentality, transforming the program into a competitive force.
Crews' coaching prowess did not go unnoticed, and in 2012, he was appointed as the interim head coach for the men's basketball team at Saint Louis University. Little did anyone know that he would lead the Billikens to great heights, taking them from a promising team to an Atlantic 10 Conference Championship victory and a remarkable Sweet 16 appearance in just two seasons. His exceptional coaching abilities were recognized, and he was named the National Coach of the Year in 2013.
