Somewhere between doomscrolling and hoping someone, anyone, understands why your chest feels heavy for no clear reason.
We grew up learning how to romanticize pain because pain was the only thing that stayed consistent. Friends faded. Lovers left. Time moved too fast. But the sadness? The sadness always showed up on time. So we learned to dress it up in black hoodies, messy eyeliner, distorted guitars, and captions that pretend we’re joking. We learned to be aesthetic about our wounds because being honest felt too vulnerable.
Here’s the truth I don’t see enough: being emo isn’t about wanting to die—it’s about wanting to feel something real in a world that keeps telling us to move on, glow up, and shut up. It’s about being soft in a place that rewards being cold. It’s about caring deeply even after being punished for it.
I know there are girls reading this who feel like ghosts in their own lives. Girls who love too hard, think too much, and replay conversations in their head like unreleased songs. Girls who understand that sadness can be comforting because at least it doesn’t lie to you. You’re not dramatic. You’re not weak. You’re just aware—and awareness hurts.
Maybe the algorithm will pick this up. Maybe it won’t. But if it does, I hope it finds the people who need to hear this: you’re allowed to be intense. You’re allowed to be complicated. You’re allowed to crave a love that feels like shared headphones at midnight and conversations that cut a little too deep.
This isn’t a cry for attention—it’s a signal flare.
