Gender and hobbies

Why are some hobbies gender based? For example if you think about sewing and crocheting women are more likely to take that up as a hobby where as woodworking and blacksmithing is popular with men but painting , writing or pottery is gender neutral for example.

Freehanding needlepoint

Felt like a young Victorian girl while freehanding this, but I was tired of patterns. The line is from Nikita Gill's poem "93 Percent"

Henna is still a little tricky for me. Got a little bored tonight

Moon and paw print. Lighthouse and raven print(but it's a little too big)

The HMS Clyde, recently sold to Brazil due to age. Laser engraved onto standard canvas with a little blue for a minimalist but hued look.
