Why do you Americans like blended soups so much?

For me personally if boiled potatoes are blended the whole thing turns into a thick glue - disgusting. And reheating such soups is a literal blasphemy (Gordon Ramsay for the win).

I prefer it homemade or from an authentic restaurant so you can really taste the spices, but sometimes convenience wins. It still tasted yummy. Opinions?
