The world is beautiful, even in darkness

Hume already argued that morality is unreasoned, it’s emotional responses. 

These emotional responses are our own biases, and other psychological needs ingrained in us so deeply, they are difficult to recognise.
It could be because we inherently have a need to be accepted, so we just adopt what we have been told, without any criticism whatsoever. Or it could be something else. 

To bring this back to the title…

As written, morality is unreasoned, so any rules we might adhere to, are based on our own needs, which in itself eliminates the emotional state of others, the rules can then be rationalised (psychological defence) to avoid our own discomfort, or simply believed in because that is what we have been told or because we believe it’s the right thing to do because everyone else does it too.  
So, whatever we would believe is right doesn’t include the consequences, but how we ourselves feel.

When we base our right and wrong on the lack of consideration for others, we can’t be trusted that the well being of others is relevant, or of any importance. And this will give others a sense of unworthiness. It can even be as severe as dehumanising others.

If your morality isn’t guided by how others are affected, you can’t be trusted.

I was thinking about how much energy people spend trying to be 'authentic.' Do you think we actually have one true core self, or are we just a collection of different versions of ourselves that change depending on who we're talking to?

So many women today are talking about… growth, boundaries, ambition, self-esteem, healing. 

Meanwhile, many men are still focused on…status, cars, gym, effort and validation. 

It's striking how different the two seem to be evolving...and the chasm is starting to appear everywhere.

I'm not

my friend the other day said: 

"if everything in life is unfair, then everything is actually fair" 

and I haven't stopped thinking about it since.

What’s a harsh truth about life that took you way too long to accept?

The most powerful skill in the modern world is... the ability to block out the noise and give your best to one thing. 

But this level of focus is brutal...it's the death of comfort.

Understand... if your focus is divided, so will your results.

Every lesson becomes wisdom

At a wedding today, I started the day anxious because i was there to support and be there for a friend, and happy to be, but the wedding was stirring up painful hurts for myself. 

I found out by the end of the night that most of the bridesmaids had, justifiably, described me as dry.  Id been a clam. Going through mayhem. I didn't know this yet. 

Then two amazing fellas found me, who id never met in person before but they recognized my name from talking online. They walked up to me during the reception at the wedding and asked if I was who I am.  It really excited me to see them, and they me. We reveled in past memories, and these two incredible fellas shared .. so much. 

Then on the ride back, I learned from the one bridesmaids I knew about what was said by their group.

Both these details are true.  And nobody was wrong.  But it really reminds me how wild this world is.  I had an amazing night. 

If anyone else has a surprisingly positive night, share it.  Let's get some positivity and perspective flowing. Never too much of those things in this world.

Sometimes I wonder what people really want

We are sparks in an immeasurable universe, searching for truth with eyes that can only see a fraction of the light.

I'm a mystical agnost and existential panendeist.

There are three types of people in your life: 1. Those who dislike you no matter what you do. 2. Those who hate you no matter what you do. 3. Those who are indifferent to you no matter what you do.

It's hard for me to describe succinctly, but more or less, we often argue along the lines of what our world views are. I believe that most people want the same thing, to promote welbeing and prosperity, but getting there is VERY messy, because everyone with very different experiences, biases, and access to different information all feel at least slightly differently about it. 

That's not to say there aren't right or wrong answers, but the messy-ness gets heavily in the way very quickly, and there are so many ways that large groups of people can be horribly wrong about something that's deeply important, and be willing to defend it 

I think that it is critical to get individuals to start being more skeptical, but to do it in a way that is reflexive, for not just others' beliefs, but their own as well. Getting someone to do that can be hard, but there is a trick to getting around intellectual laziness I think. There is a litany of small beliefs behind every big insane one, and there will never be a way to get anyone to agree until we can speak the foundations of our beliefs, which most people that feel compelled to argue will probably be willing to do. Assuming you know how to do it yourself, you can conversationally guide someone into doing that, no matter how dumb you think they might be.

The truth may not always be simple, but is there anything more convoluted than evasions of the truth?
