Majapahit Empire Coin

This Majapahit Empire coin is known as "Gobog Wayang" and was minted around the 13th century AD. This coin was first introduced by Thomas Raffles in his book "The History of Java". It has a round shape and a center hole due to the influence of Chinese cash coins or similar coins originating from China or Japan. These coins are used for offerings in temples as was done in China and Japan. So they are called as temple coins.

That's a very interesting history on this coin. I've been told that the center holes of different shapes in Asian coins were there to help identify the denomination for the blind, or in low-light conditions. Asian peoples are experts in metallurgy and in monetary technology.
