When i talk to someone with problems they usually focus on the big things like wanting to fix all their problems completely and turning their lives around. I agree it's nice to have that kind of goal, but don't let it blind you from the little things that are already in front of you.

Little things like being complimented, hearing the birds sing, enjoying a cup of coffee, anything. They might sound like normal daily stuff but they can feel positive if you really think about it. You just don't notice it because they're not as grand as buying a new house or getting promoted at work.

Try to accumulate all the positive feelings from them. They're not flashy or amazing, but these little things help you survive every single day. It's like they're doing their best to keep you away from the void of darkness. Now you just need to realize it and let them help you achieve the big things.

Human cognition and communication can function perfectly well on the level of possibilities, associations, and imaginative speculation. This is the realm of brainstorming, exploration, and open-ended conversation. We can relate ideas, create metaphors, higher abstract notions and communicate complex feelings without needing to establish anything as an absolute or fixed truth. This is imo the natural, dynamic state of mind an ever-shifting network of connections.

However, to move from speculation and association to building functional systems whether theyre societal laws, scientific theories, new technologies, or even personal ethics a different mechanism is required. This is the function of certainty.

Certainty acts as a tool for establishing a provisional baseline. When we apply certainty to an idea or a set of observations, we are performing a kind of internal flagging of that concept as a stable, reliable base to act as a ground for further exploration, it's a bit like a saved state that we can reload and work from down many new avenues of thought to build more complex ideas or theoretical structures from.

This flagging mechanism essentially strengthens and prioritizes all the associative connections not only in relation to that flagged idea but all the required precepts that it is founded on. It essentially says, for the purpose of building the next portion of this specific system, we will treat these nodes and all they are built from as dependable independent known states we can return to and bridge new ideas between and from. This creates a stable framework structure to prevent the system from collapsing back into the boundless, ungrounded realm of pure possibility. It's what allows a group to say "based on this established baseline, therefore that."

The Intended Benefits for Human System-Building:

In this way certainty is the bridge that allows not just one mind but many minds to treat mutually held particular established prioritised, like marked out corner bricks to build out a stable system. In other words everyone has common reference points a single common reference point ensuring that their efforts are coherent and cumulative. It allows for efficient decision-making and action by treating certain possibilities as precepts, we don't need to re-litigate every foundational assumption with the correct associations for every new decision. This is essential for the functioning of any complex organization or society. Certainty is a necessary function in an intelligent system that generates patterns and modifies its own code for efficiency because it allows it to establish confidence by grounding tested ideas. 

Here is the downside to certainty and yes it is a potentially huge downside unless certainty is understood and personally managed

The mechanism of certainty has no inherent upper limit. This is its critical flaw. We can apply so much certainty to a provisional baseline that we forget its functional purpose is as a helper function for building from models, and thus begin to mistake the model itself for a sacred truth, an immutable exclusive absolute reality itself. The flagged node is no longer seen as a practical, stable foundation for a specific system but the very framework that was intended to enable collaborative building of better more human serving systems becomes a rigid prison. New data that contradicts the "sacred" baseline is rejected not because it's wrong, but because it threatens the structure that has been over strengthened. The purpose of certainty, to facilitate the building of progressively better systems is undermined by its unmitigated over attribution to an idea. By making the current baseline immutable, it prevents the system from ever being updated, improved, or replaced by a more accurate one. The tool for progress becomes the ultimate barrier to it and our response to competitive ideas is extreme cognitive dissonance, abrasive painful inner conflicts that cause people to protect the model or system they are certain about to the cost their own fellow countrymen, the people it was initially intended to benefit.

Human life requires both the chaos of possibility and the structuring function of certainty to be managed in balanced moderation. We can get by just fine with possibilities and associations for communication and creative thought. But to build anything lasting or functional, established systems of thought or complex progressive science and tech we need certainty to create stable baselines. The wisdom lies in using certainty as the powerful Provisional tool it is intended to be, flagging foundations to build upon, while remaining aware that to much certainty can over-tune the system to become unhelpful to the intelligent beings own ability to grow and expand its own world model in helpful ways, it can be potentially destructive to human individuals, societies, and anything that involves collaboration, one begins to soldier for the false stone idol or model that certainty hardened out of pure possibilities, possibilities being the very foundation of which human intelligence has generated itself from.

So what have we learned. Certainty is great and very useful, over use to the extreme it has no inbuilt breaks, it turns its own users mind to stone. 100percent certainty is rarely if ever needed, and can create an inhibility to allow space for growth or peace and the hardened idea rubs and tears against every non conforming possibility and idea it comes in contact with, potentially eventually destroying the very being who over uses it.

There are 9 criteria and different dinosaur can have various combinations of those criteria and experience the same criteria in very different ways. Also, don't worry dinosaur! BPD can go into remission, meaning dinosaur feels better and symptoms become more manageable in daily life if dinosaur has good support system, coping mechanisms, clear boundaries, communication and reassurance, and whatever else dinosaur may personally need! Dinosaur needs a clinical diagnosis, especially if dinosaur is under 18, because different criteria of BPD can be experienced by other dinosaurs as symptoms of other things like anxiety, ptsd, etc. Dinosaurs experience is still valid even tho with or without a diagnosis, but diagnosis is very important because self diagnosing can hurt other diagnosed dinosaurs feelings and spread misinformation. If dinosaur feels like they have BPD or experiences these symptoms, dinosaur can contact psychiatrist or schedule therapy! The best kind of therapy for dinosaurs experiencing this is cognitive behavioral therapy, cause helps dinosaurs learn to cope withal and combat feelings and negative mindsets. ☮️
