I crafted a heavily nerfed version of the staff of the Magi; but even with the nerf, trading off the spell absorption and charging for spellcasting flexibility and survivability suit my character even better.

But the DM thinks entirely removing spell absorption and storing charges, and leaning into expanding the wizard L1 prepared spells and L2 arcane recovery features is still overpowered?!
