Mario Brega

Mario Brega Tiểu sử

Mario Brega was an Italian character actor born on March 5, 1923, in Rome, Italy. During his acting career, which spanned over three decades, he appeared in more than 100 films in Italy, France, and Spain. Brega was mainly known for his typecasting as a burly, bearded, and tough-looking supporting actor, sometimes as a villain, sometimes as a well-meaning but dim-witted friend or ally of the hero. Brega first made a name for himself in the early 1950s, working with prominent Italian filmmakers such as Federico Fellini, Vittorio De Sica, and Michelangelo Antonioni. He gained international fame after his appearance in Sergio Leone's "For a Few Dollars More" (1965) alongside Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef. Leone went on to cast Brega in several other films, including two more westerns, "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" (1966) and "Once Upon a Time in the West" (1968). Apart from westerns, Brega worked in a variety of film genres, including comedies, dramas, and war movies. His other notable works include "The Battle of Algiers" (1966), "The Godfather" (1972), and "Amarcord" (1973). Despite being mainly known for his roles as a supporting actor, Brega also worked as a leading performer in a few films, such as "Per amore... per magia..." (1967) and "Un borghese piccolo piccolo" (1977). Brega was widely regarded as one of Italy's most recognizable and versatile character actors of the twentieth century. His distinctive looks and deep, rough voice made him an ideal candidate for playing macho and gruff characters, but he was also capable of nuanced performances that showcased his range as an actor. Brega passed away on July 23, 1994, but his contributions to Italian and international cinema are still remembered and celebrated to this day.
